A weekend dance retreat allows you to experience sacred dance and movement which can be used in liturgy or for one's personal prayer life. During this time, you can participate in technique classes, choreography, movement exploration, repertory (learning dances and simple movement prayers). There is also an opportunity for you to share your special gifts with others, whether it is dance, poetry, art, music, etc. [ January | April | August ]

Also, a Wholistic Retreat for Women is offered every summer. This is a wonderful time to come together as women of various faith to dance, pray, meditate, drum, laugh, talk and sing as we explore our creative selves.

THEME: "I WILL LISTEN" - Listening is becoming an ever more valuable skill as the number of voices around us increases. We not only hear our news from an news anchor, but also other viewer comments about that news as well. Telephones, voicemail, texts, tweets, posts...there is no lack of information available to us. But now more than ever, we need to be able to prioritize what we hear. Can we distinguish the voice that would lead us in right paths, to still waters and green pastures?

Come spend a few hours away from the babble of voices clamoring for your attention. Through movement, music and stillness we will seek to hear the voice that tells us we will recognize God. Emmalyn will also use drumming as a way to listen. If you have a drum, bring it. If not, the Company will provide some.

Alleluia Dance Theater is a non-profit corporation whose mission for over 30 years has been to inspire and encourage people in their spiritual journeys through movement. Conducting the workshop are Evelyn Okamoto, Emmalyn Moreno and Stella Matsuda.

Weekend of April 27 - 29: PRAISE GOD IN DANCE, A WEEKEND DANCE RETREAT at La Casa de Maria Retreat Center, Santa Barbara, CA (map & directions)

THEME: Listen: The Music of God's Voice

Sometimes the voice we strain so hard to hear can be grasped more easily through the melody He is singing rather than the words. There is a listening that happens on a level deeper than that of the mind; the heart and the spirit have parts to play as well. But often the prerequisite is slience. We must stop the noise we make, stop attending to the noise of others, and let the voice we love above all others speak out of the silence.

Come away from the noise of your daily life to the quiet of La Casa de Maria, nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Santa Ynez Mountains. We will use movement, song, slience, sharing and drumming to tune into "the music of God's voice"!  

This workshop is open to all faiths. For the beginner dancer to the more advanced, there will be various levels to accommodate your needs: learning dances based on the theme, technique classes, and movement exploration. As always there will be a culminating event on Sunday 1:30 - 2:30 pm, followed by a 35th anniversary celebration reception. Please invite your friends to join us.

We offer a special discounted price of $335 in honor of our 35th anniversary. Scholarships are available.

COST: $335. Fee includes tuition, shared room, five meals, snacks.
Commuter cost: $250.
