TO BEND AND NOT TO BREAK - “The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists.” Japanese proverb
When the Santa Ana winds blow through southern California we often think first of the fire danger associated with them, but the fierce winds themselves often cause damage. Some trees are solid enough to withstand the force, but strength is not the only characteristic of survivors. Palm and eucalyptus trees that gracefully bend to the force of the winds use flexibility to their advantage.
Likewise for our human spirits, flexibility can be of great advantage. Flexibility will help us to bend, and not to break, in the winds that blow through our lives. In this weekend retreat we will focus on bowing down, good exercise for both body and spirit, as well as other ways to cultivate flexibility.
